Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), formaldehyde: highly volatile chemical pollutants
In urban areas, we spend 70% of our time in closed spaces: at work, at home, in the car… Indoor air pollution is as important a public health issue as air pollution. In this context, the most widespread pollutants – indoors and outdoors – are Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs), chemical molecules emitted in gaseous form. There are thousands of them. They are very volatile and severely degrade air quality. Our household and DIY products emit VOCs, for example.
Formaldehyde, one of the most toxic VOCs
And among these thousands of VOCs, formaldehyde is one of the most toxic. It is present in glues, construction and decoration products. Formaldehyde is found in reconstituted wood and plywood furniture or in the interior equipment of our cars. In short, VOCs are everywhere in the air, even more so in our interior, and they are just one example of the chemical pollutants we breathe every day. There is also carbon monoxide, nitrogen dioxide, created by our domestic activities such as burning food, using heating equipment, cigarette smoke… Not to mention pollutants of biological origin or fine particles directly from air pollution.
What solutions to eliminate chemical pollutants from the air we breathe?
There are solutions to eliminate chemical pollutants that degrade indoor air quality. For example, activated carbon is known for its ability to absorb Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs). It is based on porous carbon and is commercially available in granular or sponge form. Integrated with an air purifier, it is effective for cleaning indoor air in a closed room. Another compound known for its depolluting properties is acetoacetamide, capable of fixing formaldehyde to clean up confined spaces.
An air purifier based on activated carbon and acetoacetamide
Our ecological air purifier is based on activated carbon and acetoacetamide. It reduces VOC emissions by more than 30% and formaldehyde emissions by more than 44%*. It does not consume energy, it does not require changing filters and it does not create any polluting by-products. You can use it in any room of the house to improve air quality. You can also use it to clean the interior of your vehicle.
These tests were carried out at FCBA according to ISO 16000-23 Extract from test report n°402/15/1247C/1. This report is available upon request.
